Born in Budapest, Hungary, Charlie (Károly in Hungarian) has called Canada home for the last forty years and has lived in several cities ranging from the West coast of BC to Ontario.

After earning his electrical engineering degree from the University of Victoria, Charlie worked in Calgary for several years in his chosen field. While living there he rekindled an early interest in photography, attending several courses at the Alberta College of Art and Design on black and white photography and darkroom film development and printmaking techniques.

The advent of digital photography and mass availability of high-quality digital cameras that soon followed unlocked possibilities for near endless experimentation with different techniques. Using this new medium Charlie continued to capture his preferred subject matter of landscapes as well as smaller-scale images of nature. He has also taken interesting detours into alternative analog photographic printmaking processes such as tintype, photogravure and cyanotype. Charlie lives in the James Bay neighbourhood of Victoria.
